Researching places to eat

Newcastle is seeing a bit of a shake up in the restaurant scene at the moment with several stayers undergoing changes of ownership or refurbishment.

One of these is Lime at the Junction. It has a new name, Talulah, and new decor. A lunch visit the other day revealed not a great change in the lunch menu at least. The news on the block is that dinner is more casual than when it was Lime. I will have to go and check this out.

Mark Hosie is opening an Italian eatery at the Lambton Park Hotel - another place to check soon.

And what has happened at Scottie's on Scott Street. Jerarmie Heywood is bringing a fresh look to this fish cafe, with emphasis on fresh and seasonal fish and other produce.

Link to Newcastle Herald blog

I can now advise that the Newcastle Herald is posting my food reviews on their website. So far they have posted the four most recent reviews. The website link follows.

However, I will still post scanned copies from the previous week's edition of the paper.

This weekend is a big one for Australian members of Slowfood. Its founder, Carlo Petrini will be in Sydney, attending several dinners and functions, both for members and for the general public, including speaking in the Opera House on Sunday.

We are going to birdcowfish restaurant tonight for a Slowfood dinner, with food being prepared by four Terra Madre chefs. One Terra Madre producer will provide his heritage pork for the dinner.

Then, on Sunday morning we will go to a Bush Tucker picnic, prepared by Jean-Paul Brunetau, Bush tucker pioneer in Australia. Following the picnic we will make our way to the Sydney Opera House to hear Carlo Petrini.

A report with photos will follow.

Welcome to A Love of Fare

So many people have asked me if my restaurant reviews, published in the Weekender Magazine in the Newcastle Herald every Saturday are available online that I have decided to start a blog, partly to be able to post these reviews. As soon as I have scanned past reviews I will add them to the blog.

Please feel free to add your comments. I appreciate feedback.
